Discussion at Oxford University on the Book \u201cTarique Rahman: Politics and Policies in Contemporary Bangladesh\u201d\n\u201cThere is No Alternative to Tarique Rahman\u2019s Visionary Leadership for Bangladesh\u201d\n\nA discussion session was held at the world-renowned University of Oxford on the recently published book \u201cTarique Rahman: Politics and Policies in Contemporary Bangladesh\u201d, which explores the political philosophy and strategic vision of Tarique Rahman, the Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).\n\nSpeakers at the event emphasized that Tarique Rahman\u2019s visionary leadership is indispensable for guiding Bangladesh toward the long-aspired goal of democracy and freedom from fascism.\n\nThe event took place on Friday, 24 October 2025, at the Exeter College Auditorium, University of Oxford, under the initiative of the Oxford Bangla Society. In addition to Oxford students, Bangladeshi students from other universities across the UK also participated in the discussion.\n\nSpeakers noted that the book highlights Tarique Rahman\u2019s thoughts, policies, and plans for establishing democracy and human rights in Bangladesh.\n\nDistinguished participants in the discussion included:\n\nSir Peter Heap, former British diplomat; Dr. Shahidul Alam, internationally acclaimed human rights activist ; Zahir Uddin Swapan, former Member of Parliament\n\nThe keynote paper was presented by Dr. Manjida Ahmed, faculty member at Middlesex University\u2019s Department of Law.\n\nIn her paper, Dr. Manjida Ahmed stated that \u201cTarique Rahman\u2019s reform-oriented leadership inspires hope for the next generation.\u201d Despite living in exile, he remains deeply connected with grassroots party activists and is highly focused on economic progress and sustainable development. His ultimate vision is to transform Bangladesh into an economically self-reliant and strong nation.\n\nDr. Manjida added, \u201cTarique Rahman rejects the politics of vengeance and envisions a just and egalitarian society based on freedom of expression and democratic values.\u201d His 31-point reform plan presents a comprehensive framework for building a new, modern, and democratic Bangladesh.\n\nQuoting from Tarique Rahman\u2019s recent interview with the Financial Times (UK), Dr. Manjida noted that \u201cTarique Rahman\u2019s goal is to turn Bangladesh into a global e-commerce hub like Amazon or eBay.\u201d\n\nDr. Shahidul Alam highlighted that Tarique Rahman\u2019s political outlook places special emphasis on public participation and accountability, which are essential for the future advancement of democracy in Bangladesh.\n\nSir Peter Heap stated that achieving positive transformation in Bangladesh\u2019s political sphere requires a balanced foreign policy and sound diplomatic judgment, both of which are evident in Tarique Rahman\u2019s political approach.\n\nAddressing questions from Oxford students about BNP\u2019s reform agenda and Tarique Rahman\u2019s policies, Zahir Uddin Swapan said, \u201cTarique Rahman\u2019s 31-point reform proposal offers a new direction for Bangladesh\u2019s political and economic landscape.\u201d\n\nThe event concluded with a joint moderation by Ahmed Muhtadi and Saimur Mujib Rahman, both students of the University of Oxford and leaders of the Oxford Bangla Society.<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
